WEBSITE
Visit Website →Columbia is a hidden gem nestled on the banks of the Scuppernong River in Tyrrell County — one of the least populated counties in North Carolina, and all the more special for it. This tiny town has cultivated a surprisingly vibrant arts community that punches well above its weight.
The Tyrrell County Arts Council hosts rotating exhibitions, workshops, and community events that draw artists and visitors from across the region. The town's Pocosin Arts School of Fine Craft is nationally recognized for its residency programs in ceramics, fiber arts, and other traditional crafts.
Columbia also serves as the perfect gateway to the Pocosin Lakes and Alligator River refuges, making it an ideal stop on a wildlife viewing day. The town's waterfront park on the Scuppernong is a lovely spot for a picnic, and the small downtown has a quiet charm that rewards those who slow down and look.
OUR INSIDER TIP
"Combine a visit to Columbia with a trip to Pocosin Lakes or Alligator River refuge. The Pocosin Arts gallery is worth a stop even if you're just passing through."
