A circa 1850 farm manager's house, also built by the Norcom family, this is the oldest wooden structure we know of in our area. It was carefully relocated to Bloom Farm in 1988 and restored to its original charm.

THE STORY
The Cottage is an 1850s farm manager's house also built by the Norcom family. This remarkable structure may be among the oldest wooden buildings in the region, a testament to the craftsmanship of its era.
The cottage was moved onto the Bloom Farm property in 1988, carefully relocated to preserve its historical integrity. The move was a labor of love, ensuring that this piece of regional history would be protected and appreciated for generations to come.
Originally renovated as a guest house, the cottage has been expanded to approximately 2,100 square feet while maintaining its historic character. The home now features two bedrooms and two and a half bathrooms, blending period charm with modern conveniences.
The cottage stands as a reminder of the agricultural heritage of Chowan County and the families who worked this land for generations.
ARCHITECTURAL CHARACTER
Pre-Civil War construction with hand-hewn beams and original woodwork. Approximately 2,100 square feet with two bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms after restoration and expansion.
